Chester Races – Boodles May Festival 2020

Chester Racecourse, the oldest horse racing track in England, has been thrilling horse enthusiasts since 1539 with exciting races and annual events. One of the most festive events at Chester Racecourse is the Boodles May Festival which opens the racing season at the iconic course.

Races were initially run on Shrove Tuesday, but the date was changed to St. George’s Day in 1609. The festival has been in existence since 1766. Chester Racecourse, famous as the Roodee, is one of the smallest courses in the country with a track that’s 1.8 km, equivalent to one mile and one furlong. Chester Racecourse is one of the most picturesque in the UK.

Following the breath-taking traditional curtain raiser of the Lily Agnes Stakes, the Chester Vase and Cheshire Oaks serve up some fantastic on-track action, with both Derby trials separating the men from the boys.

One of the most prestigious races in the history of Chester Racecourse is the Chester Vase.

The race was initially run in 1907. The Group 3 flat race is open to three-year-old geldings and colts. The race is 1 mile, 5 furlongs, and 75 yards. The top horses in the Chester Vase will compete at Epsom later in the horse racing season.
