Introducing The Leopard, Chester’s Newest Pub

As of June 15, The Leopard, a state-of-the-art pub, has proudly opened its doors, swiftly earning acclaim as one of the best in Chester, but we will let you be the judge of that.

The Leopard is more than just a venue; it embodies a new era in Chester’s social scene, harmoniously blending a touch of history with contemporary design. Born from the transformed former Bonmarche store on Foregate Street, the result of an ambitious £1.6m venture by Amber Taverns, this novel two-floor pub is primed to offer an unparalleled pub experience in the heart of Chester.

From the moment you step inside The Leopard, you’ll notice the attention to detail, the tastefully chosen wallpaper in tribute to the pub’s name, the carefully curated modern aesthetics, and the welcoming ambience. As an exclusively 18+ establishment, The Leopard will cater to Chester’s adults with an extensive selection of beverages and the latest live televised sports events.

One of the standout features of The Leopard is its open-air terrace, a charming rooftop space that adds an extraordinary character to the venue. Matthew Bainbridge, the area manager for Amber Taverns, emphasised the importance of outdoor space to the pub’s identity, stating, “We took part of the roof out for the terrace because we have to have an outdoor space, and it brings more character.”

Leopard bears historical significance in Chester, a nod to a beloved, erstwhile local pub, the Leopard Tavern. This homage to the city’s past, coupled with an acknowledgement of the imminent opening of a snow leopard enclosure at Chester Zoo, signifies the pub’s commitment to being an intrinsic part of the local narrative.

Overseeing the operations of The Leopard is husband and wife duo Dean and Bethany Bradley, experienced publicans transferring from an Amber Taverns venue in Stalybridge. This seasoned pair, bolstered by three staff members from their previous establishment, eagerly anticipate sharing their passion for pub management with the Chester community.

“The pub looks brilliant,” Dean Bradley effuses, emphasising the importance of the little touches in setting the stage for their patrons. Having experienced Chester’s unique ambience, Dean and Bethany appreciate the city’s distinctive charm and the sense of safety it offers.

With its optimal location at the bottom of the high street and a mere ten-minute walk from the train station, The Leopard is destined to be a crowd-pleaser. As Matthew Bainbridge enthused, “We truly believe this is perfect for us.”

So, visit The Leopard, whether you are a local or a visitor looking to soak up Chester’s vibrant pub scene. Raise a glass under the open sky on the roof terrace, and witness how the city’s newest pub is taking its place in Chester’s story.
